Welcome home Professor Tabord-Meehan. The Department of Economics is pleased to announce the appointment of Max Tabord-Meehan to the role of Associate Professor. The econometrician interested in both theoretical and applied area of the sub-discipline joins the University of Toronto from the University of Chicago where he has taught since 2019 after completing his PhD at Northwestern the same year. He earned his MA in Economics at the University of Western Ontario and a B. Math from the University of Waterloo.
“I’m originally from Toronto, and I’m excited to return to my hometown and join a world-class department.” Professor Tabord-Meehan said. “I look forward to continuing my research, advising students, and exploring new areas in econometrics.”
Tabord-Meehan will teach the undergraduate courses ECO375, Applied Econometrics, and ECO475, Applied Econometrics II, for the upcoming semester. Students can expect to explore the use of tools that can be broadly used in their studies and work.
“I focus on teaching a few core topics in each course and aim to explore them in depth,” he said. “Along the way, I try to emphasize the underlying principles that students can apply to a wide range of problems they may encounter in the future. I hope to cultivate the ability to communicate ideas thoughtfully and clearly both in writing and in speech. I also want to help students build the confidence to tackle difficult tasks in their coursework and in life more generally.”
Professor Tabord-Meehan looks forward to exploring potential research collaborations with members of the Department of Economics.
“I am always eager to connect with faculty and grad students to learn about their work and to explore shared interests,” Professor Tabord-Meehan explained.
