Courtney Ward will officially rise to the rank of Associate Professor of Economics as of 1 July 2024. Now holding the title of Assistant Professor, the Teaching Stream faculty member’s courses focus on data analysis, applied econometrics and topics in health economics. According to department leadership, the undergraduate programs will benefit from Ward’s promotion. “Our Teaching Stream faculty are vital to the department’s commitment to undergraduate education and ensuring that we remain the premier undergraduate economics program in the country,” said Professor Robert Gazzale, Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies. “With her commitment to effective pedagogy, the cutting-edge of the economics profession, and ultimately her students’ success, Courtney Ward personifies the strength of our Teaching Stream. We are grateful that Courtney has chosen to solidify her commitment to the Department of Economics and look forward to her continued success.”
Undergraduate students who have taken one of Ward’s courses welcomed news of her new appointment. “Professor Ward exudes unwavering warmth and enthusiasm for her class from day one till the end,” said fourth year student Ketaki Sarin. “She has an engaging and intuitive way of teaching complex econometrics concepts and was the first to introduce me to the skills required for written research work. I have always vouched for her courses, and hearing about her promotion is great news for undergrads!”
Ward is enthusiastic about this enhanced role. “Earning promotion in the Department of Economics is an honour. In joining the department, I aimed to achieve that rare circumstance where the thing I am passionate about, the thing where I can’t help but want to invest my efforts, is the same thing as my day job,” Ward said. “Promotion is an important signal that those efforts have impact. I want to thank my colleagues, students, and the rest of the community in the Economics Department for their support and the opportunity to continue this work.”
