On July 1, 2024, Professors Colin Steward and Michael Baker will assume the positions of Associate Chair of Graduate Programs and Associate Chair of Undergraduate Programs, respectively.
In-coming Associate Chair of Undergraduate Programs, Professor Baker also serves as Canada Research Chair in Economics and Public Policy. He and his colleagues recently won the Douglas Purvis Memorial Prize for their examination of how the introduction of the Canada Child Benefit has affected rates of child poverty. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. Professor Baker earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, his M.A. from York University and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Be prepared to smile. The Front Desk of Happiness is coming to the Department of Economics. March 20th is the International Day of Happiness and Adriano Macedo, the events and office assistant with the department, has been studying the ups and downs of happiness and how to create it. He recently earned a certification in the Science of Well-being.
