The Economics Study Centre is open. The most valuable resource available to new econ students is housed in Economics’ HQ at Max Gluskin House, 150 St. George Street, Room 110. Even if you aren’t having issues with ECO101 or 102, you are always welcome to drop in and talk about economics.
“Come drop by the ESC!” emphasized lead learning assistant Kevin Wang. “We’re here to make sure the ESC is a great resource to get your conceptual questions answered, meet other economics students, and get advice about navigating being an economics student.”
The learning assistants (LAs) are third- and fourth-year students who did so well in their first two years of Economics, they were chosen to help others.
“I can remember exactly what it was like to be in ECO101,” said ESC LA Ian Wan. “I have always loved economics, but I still think all the learning assistants use memories of their own learning and their own challenges in each course to support other students. Working as a learning assistant and listening to other students describe the problems, they are having has made me more empathetic and understanding.”
The ESC is open from Monday to Thursday, noon to 6PM. The schedule for when each LA is available and their course specialties is posted here.
While you’re visiting the ESC, get to know the department space, rest in the lounge, find out about events and search out where your TAs and profs have their offices. You might not spend a lot of time in Max Gluskin House, but it is still the centre of the economics community here on the St. George campus.
The ESC is a drop-in centre, so students do not need to book an appointment in advance. To create a safer environment for all, students sign up at the door when they arrive and wait until the LA calls their name.
