During this seminar, the Fellow of Sidney Sussex College will lead the discussion of how appropriately designed markets can help address the climate problem. Two exemplar markets are the EU Single Electricity Market and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. The group will discuss why, how and if power and carbon markets can deliver an effective decarbonization of the planet’s energy system.
Professor Pollitt is a prominent economist specializing in energy economics and policy. He is a Professor of Business Economics at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. Pollitt has held academic positions at various institutions and has been a former external economic advisor to the UK Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem). He is a member of the editorial boards of several academic journals and has published numerous articles and books on efficiency and productivity analysis, energy policy, and business ethics. Pollitt has also been involved in policy advising and consulting for organizations such as the UK Government, the European Commission, and the International Energy Agency.
