The Department of Economics at the University of Toronto is pleased to announce that its alumnus and faculty member, Professor Daniel Trefler, is now a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Currently cross-appointed to both the Department of Economics and the Rotman School of Management, Trefler completed his BA in Economics here at the University of Toronto before graduate studies at Oxford and UCLA. Trefler is best-known for his research that has been applied to international trade agreements that “promote productivity, innovation and investment while minimizing the harmful effects on workers and the most disadvantaged.”
“Becoming an RSC Fellow reminds me, most of all, to be grateful to my larger community,” Trefler said in an email statement, “both to UofT for providing me an intellectual home, and to Canadian governments and taxpayers who supported my research.”
Trefler is one of 13 University of Toronto faculty members to be made fellows of the RSC this year.
