Associate Professor Jiaying Gu of the Department of Economics is now a Canada Research Chair (CRC). Gu’s Tier 2 CRC in Statistical Decision Making comes with a total award of $120,000 for each year of its five-year renewable term.
“I am grateful for this CRC appointment and the recognition it represents,” said Professor Gu. “This award allows me to pursue ambitious new directions that I am excited about. As an econometrician, I hope the tools we develop will find broader and more meaningful use in economic applications, and I plan to devote substantial effort to advancing this agenda during my CRC term.”
Gu leads PhD-level seminar courses in econometrics at the St. George campus and teaches undergraduate applied econometrics courses at UTM. Widely published, her research has appeared in the Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of the American Statistical Association, and Journal of Econometrics among many other international academic journals.
“We are immensely proud of Jiaying’s appointment as a Canada Research Chair,” said Professor Ronald Woltoff, Chair of Economics at UTM. “It is a well-deserved recognition of her leadership in econometrics and the importance of her work for evidence-based decision-making and public policy.”
